What does a Personalized Fertility Evaluation & Plan entail?
Personalized Fertility Evaluation
Comprehensive Questionnaire This includes a detailed health, lifestyle, nutritional, environmental, and fertility history for heterosexual and same-sex couples, single women and men using their own eggs and sperm, donor eggs and sperm or surrogates. The forms are completed online in a secure client portal prior to the initial consult. All information will be reviewed by Dr. Tamara before your first meeting. It is also helpful to upload any labs, imaging, and other diagnostic reports you have. These forms generally take about an hour to complete depending on the complexity of your case and the amount of detail you choose to include.
Detailed Intake (Virtual or In-person) Your initial consult generally takes ~90 minutes. This visit is all about reviewing any additional details that need clarification from your questionnaires and discussing your concerns and goals. Lab testing recommendations will be provided at this visit. A subsequent regroup consult will be scheduled following the results of your lab tests to provide comprehensive, individualized therapeutic recommendations.
*Please be aware that if you live outside of Minnesota or Vermont (where Dr. Tamara holds a Naturopathic License), Dr. Tamara is legally able to provide consultation only and you must maintain the guidance of your primary care physician.
Comprehensive Laboratory Evaluation Laboratory testing recommendations will be made at your first visit, based on your needs, concerns, goals, and Dr. Tamara’s assessment. So much can be uncovered when we dig a little deeper into your chemistry. The results and recommendations based on these tests will be provided during a subsequent 60 minute regroup visit.
Personalized Fertility Plan
Naturopathic Medicine The naturopathic approach focuses on uncovering your unique root-cause obstacles to getting or staying pregnant and consciously nurturing and restoring optimal fertility. Dr. Tamara wants to support your journey whether you’re struggling to conceive naturally (with or without a diagnosis), or you’re going through fertility treatment.
Cycle Monitoring & Body Awareness Our cycles reveal so much about our fertility and overall health. Dr. Tamara will review your cycle information as it can provide clues into subtle changes with your hormones, whether you’ve ovulated and your most fertile days. If you aren’t familiar with cycle monitoring it will be explained during your consultation.
Fertility Specific Clinical Nutrition Nutrition can have a powerful influence on your fertility and overall mental and physical health. The nutrients from your food are literally the building blocks for you, your reproductive hormones, your growing, thriving baby, and your breast milk. Your current nutrition will be reviewed and recommendations will be made based on your specific needs. Dr. Tamara may refer you to a trusted nutritionist if you need help with meal planning or if there is a need for significant attention in this area.
Targeted Supplementation Supplementation can be used in conjunction with dietary and lifestyle changes to fill in nutritional deficiency gaps and therapeutically to support overall female and male fertility, egg and sperm health, hormonal imbalance, ovulation, IVF/IUI support, blood sugar dysregulation, gut health, inflammation, immune dysregulation, etc. Dr. Tamara’s recommendations are never one-size-fits-all. They are based on your particular needs. All suggested products have demonstrated effectiveness clinically, historically, and/or in the scientific literature. The brands utilized are vetted for their quality and rigorous manufacturing practices. You will always receive at least 15% off of the MSRP and most supplements are available to order online and have shipped to you at your convenience.
Lifestyle Strategies Our focus will be on mind-body techniques for stress reduction, sleep hygiene, and movement to support your fertility.
Environmental Exposure Reduction Unfortunately, there is much about the environment that can impact our fertility from the products we use to wash our hair to the air we breathe. We’ll focus on reducing the exposures we have the most control over and that have the greatest impact your health.
Physiotherapy Self-care It is not uncommon to unknowingly detach from your body physically, especially your abdomen, pelvis and reproductive organs, when you’re struggling with fertility. Many women describe this as a protective mechanism. However, by refocusing physical energy, through touch and acupressure, to these areas, it may be possible to improve energy, blood flow and function. Dr. Tamara will teach you some simple techniques to support your reproductive organs, abdomen and pelvic floor.
Care Circle Let’s face it, fertility support is a team sport! It takes a village to create the nourishing nest needed to walk this road. Thankfully there are so many resources available. Dr. Tamara will encourage and help you create this for yourself. It looks different for everyone, but is vital to your mental and physical well-being.
Resources Because there are so many of us that have made this journey, there are wonderful books, blogs, podcasts, products & services available that will be discussed as needed.
Monthly Follow-ups Dr. Tamara likes to schedule monthly check-ins (more often if needed) to see how things are going, troubleshoot any issues, questions or concerns that arise and make adjustments to your recommendations if needed. These are generally 30-60 minutes in length.
Email Communication Messaging is available through the client portal between scheduled visits.
